The historical and romantic drama is about the turbulent early years of Queen Victoria’s reign and her marriage to Prince Albert. In 1837, 17-year-old Victoria (Emily Blunt) becomes the object of a royal power struggle. When King William (Jim Broadbent), her uncle, is dying, Victoria is next in line for the throne. Victoria ascends the throne at the age of 18 and thus has to assume responsibility amongst a time of grave political conflicts. She has to learn to sustain her position as the queen. During that time, Victoria’s handsome cousin Albert (Rupert Friend), also the nephew of King Leopold of Belgium (Thomas Kretschmann) visits the court in London. It is obvious that Albert is pushed by his family to win her hand in order to strengthen the family’s influence on the English royal house. The historical and romantic drama is about the turbulent early years of Queen Victoria’s reign and her marriage to Prince Albert. In 1837, 17- year- old Victoria (Emily Blunt) gets the object of a royal power struggle. When King William (Jim Broadbent), her uncle, is dying, Victoria is in line for the throne. Victoria ascends the throne in the age of 18 and thus assumes responsibility amongst a time of grave political conflicts. Although Victoria and Albert have to overcome a lot of obstacles, they get married and rule together in the end.

<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;"></ins>“The Young Victoria”<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;"> </ins>is a film from 2009, directed by Jean Marc Vallée and written by Julian Fellowes.
