April 1667 - 27 February 1735. Scriblerian and inventor of John Bull.
"Scottish mathematician, physician, and occasional writer" (Encyclopaedia Britannica). Together with Jonathan Swift, Alexander Pope and John Gay one of the founders of the Scriblerus Club. Although he published several mathematical and other scientific texts, he is mostly remembered for his literary texts about John Bull, which later became a national symbol. As well as for his participation in writing the satire Memoirs of Martinus Scriblerus.
