1667-1723. Together with Aphra Behn one of the first (professional) women authors. Centlivre was a dramatist and she wrote about nineteen plays for the stage during her career. She was born in November 1667 in Lincolnshire, England. During her career she was as famous as Aphra Behn. Most of her plays were comedies but she also wrote two tragical plays: The Perjured Husband (1700) and The Cruel Gift (1716). Susanna Centlivre died on December 1 in the year 1723. Her plays were still performed long after her death.
