The Treaties of Utrecht
A series of treaties between France, Spain and other European countries (e.g., the Dutch republic, Prussia, Portugal, Savoy and Britain), officially ending the [[War of Spanish Succession]] (1701-1713). Ratified between April 11 1713 and September 1714.


The Treaties of Utrecht represent a line of treaties which where fulfilled between France and powerful countries of Europe and represent also another line of treaties between Spain and other powerful countries. The Treaties of Utrecht took place from April 11 1713 to September 1714 and are also named the Peace of Utrecht. The Treaties of Utrecht resulted an end on the Spanish Succession (1701- 1713).
In the treaty with Britain, France acknowledged Queen Anne as the British sovereign and decided to cut the support of the Old Pretender James Edward, the son of James II. Britain gained Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, the Hudson Bay territory and the island of St Kitts from France. France also pledged to destroy the fortress constructions at Dunkirk. These fortifications had been used to attack ships from the Dutch republic and Britain.  


The powerful countries that were involved in the Treaties of Utrecht with France were for example: the Dutch republic, Prussia, Portugal and Savoy. So France concluded treaties on behalf of the Peace of Utrecht with these countries. To present some example aspects of the treaties: Concerning the treaty with Britain, France has realized Queen Anne as the British sovereign and decided to cut the support of James Edward, the son of King James II, who had been deposed. France has left Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, the Hudson Bay territory and the island of St. Kitts to Britain and pledged to destroy the fortress constructions at Dunkirk. These fortifications at Dunkirk had been used to attack ships from the Dutch republic and Britain. The treaty with the Dutch republic says that France supports to add a part of Gelderland from the United Provinces and should keep some barrier strongholds in the Spanish part of the Netherlands.


The treaties of Utrecht concerning Spain were more complicated to realize. When the treaty of Spain and Britain was fulfilled in July 13 Gibraltar and Minorca was committed to Britain. Due to the asiento agreement Spain dedicated the right to Britain to provide the Spanish colonies with African slaves for a time sequence of the next 30 years. The Treaty with Spain and Savoy on August 13, 1713, which says that the former Spanish possession of Sicily was relinquished to Victor Amadeus II. After that he retracts what he has claimed about the Spanish throne.
