Lessing lived in Persia during her childhood and then moved to Britain. She is novelist, Moseley, Merritt, Understanding Julian Barnes, [place??]: University of South Carolina Press, 1997.. She can be related to some monvements, such as Modernism, Postmodernism or Feminism.


She was educated at the Dominican Convent High School in Salsbury,she left school and was self-edated. Later she worked as nursemaid and as a telephone operator. She wrote many novels as for instance The Grass Is Singing (1950), The Golden Notebook (1962), The Good Terrorist (1985) or The Fifth Child (1988), The Summer Before the Dark (1973),Mara and Dann (1999).

Together with Simone de Beavoir who wrote The Second Sex,she took part in the Women's Movent during the 60's. She published The Golden Notebook. this novel presents the us with the current socio-plitical problems of the time, and Lessinf describes womens situation during this period.


In the year 2007 ahe won the Nobel Prize of Literature. Among other prices she received Premio Principe de Asturias in 2001, the Prix Medici and the David Cohen Prize in 2001. during a period of her live she tried to publish her novels under a pseudonym, Jane Somer.
