Literally: "empty tomb" (in Greek). Monument designed by Edwin Lutyens. First as temporary structure made of wood and plaster for the Peace celebrations in 1919. Since 1920 permanent stone monument. Dedicated to "The Glorious Dead". Centre of the British celebrations of Armistice Day, November 11.
