1652-1715. Playwright and third Poet Laureate. Infamous for his adaptation of Shakespeare's King Lear. Unjustly forgotten as author of the libretto of Dido and Aeneas. Ridiculed by Alexander Pope in The Dunciad as writing "prose run mad".
