Famous battle, took place 27 June 1743 near the Bavarian city of Dettingen. Part of the War of the Austrian Succession. Famous on military grounds, because Britain and its allies won. Famous on musical grounds, because Friedrich Händel wrote the "Dettingen Te Deum" in celebration of the victory. Famous for anecdotal monarchical reasons, because it is supposed to be the last battle in which a British monarch fought personally.
