Richard Hakluyt

1552-1616. Writer and geographer who wanted England to explore the world, establish colonies in America and challenge Spanish supremacy over the seas. In 1589, one year after the victory over the Armada, he published his main work, The Principall Navigations, Voiages and Discoveries of the English Nation.
