1838. Document drawn up by a committee that included William Lovett, an activist in the London Working Men's Association. The charter made six main demands: the vote for every man of 21 years of age, the secret ballot, the abolition of property qualifications for Members of Parliament, salaries for Members of Parliament, equal constituencies and annual parliamentary elections.
