Homer

The name commonly applied to the author(s) of two of the earliest and most influential works of Western literature, the Iliad and the Odyssey. Supposedly an ancient Greek poet who lived in the 8th century BC or earlier.

The title of James Joyce's novel Ulysses, a classic of Modernism set in 20th-century Dublin, alludes to Odysseus, who is called Ulixes in Latin. Several further characters and incidents in the novel are deliberately modelled on Homer's epic poem.
